Obituary

Raymond J. Hebert, 93, of Tewksbury, formerly of Reading, Woburn, and Gardner, died peacefully on February 25, 2024, surrounded by his family whom he loved so dearly.

Born in Gardner on December 24, 1930, he was the son of the late Edmond and Claire (Brouillet) Hebert.
He graduated from Gardner High School Class of 1948 and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force shortly thereafter. Following Basic Training, he was assigned to Templehof Air Force Base in Berlin, Germany where he took part in the Berlin Airlift.

Following a three-year assignment at Templehof, he was assigned to Warner Robins Air Force Base in Georgia until his discharge in August 1952. He is a Korean War Veteran and earned the Germany Occupation Medal, the Berlin Airlift Medal with Device, the Medal for Humane Action, and the Good Conduct Medal.

Soon after his discharge, he enrolled at Worcester Junior College where he earned an Associate Degree in Electrical Engineering. He was employed by Raytheon at its Missile Systems Plant in Lowell, MA for 30 years until his retirement.

In August of 1955 he married Anna Lavoie and they moved to Reading, MA. He was a parishioner of St. Agnes Church. He was active in its new scouting program and later in its youth group, Confirmation Team, and Parish Retreat programs. He was also a Eucharistic Minister.

He later moved to Woburn, MA but continued his ties with St. Agnes. He later moved to Tewksbury where he became a member of St. William’s Church. Here he was a Eucharistic Minister serving residents of Blaire House Nursing Home. He considered this one of the most enjoyable things he ever did.

He enjoyed reading, bible study, walking, bicycling, photography, piano, time spent at the Tewksbury Senior Center playing Bingo, and meeting with the men’s group.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Anna (Lavoie) Hebert, his son, Paul Hebert of Windham, NH, his daughter Linda Allen and her husband Richard of Chelmsford, MA, and by his daughter Lisa McGinn and her husband John of Tewksbury, MA: one sister, Eleanor Ingves Babineau of Titusville, FL: 4 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Ray was predeceased by his daughter-in-law, Donna Hebert of Windham, NH and his brother, Roger Hebert of Gardner, MA.

Services will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, donations in Raymond’s name may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
