WORCESTER-James A. Dowd, Jr, 63, died Sunday, July 9th in St. Vincent Hospital after a long illness. He leaves his wife Elizabeth (Eaton) Dowd, 2 sons, James III and Christopher, both of Worcester, his mother Winifred (Fournier) Dowd Hammerberg of Worcester. He also leaves 4 sisters; Winifred, wife of Francis O’Coin, Catherine, wife of John O’Connor, Margaret Dowd and Mary Dorothy, wife of Howard Curll, all of Worcester and his younger brother, Dennis and many nephews and nieces.
He was born in Worcester his father was the late James A. Dowd. Jim was a graduate of St. John’s High School and attended Worcester State College. He had worked for many years at Worcester Controls Corporation in West Boylston and at Alternatives in Northbridge. Before his stroke, he owned and operated the consignment and antique shop known as Neat Repeats in Fitchburg. Mr. Dowd loved fishing, cooking and antiquing and was involved with youth sports as a hockey and baseball coach and enjoyed being a Cub Scout Master for Pack 37.
The funeral is Thursday. July 13th from O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue with a Mass at 10:00 in Christ the King Church, 1052 Pleasant Street. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery. Calling hours are Wednesday, July 12th from 3:00 until 6:00 PM in the funeral home.
