Obituary

Jimmy Charles Josey, 89, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Saturday, February 17, 2024, at his residence.

Graveside services will be held 11:30 AM, Monday, February 19, 2024, at Irwinville Cemetery in Irwin County, Georgia, with the Rev. Dr. Brent Duncan officiating. The family will receive friends from 10 until 11 Monday morning at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.

Mr. Josey was born January 8, 1935, in Irwinville, Georgia, to the late James Monroe & Euna Roberts Josey. He served his country honorably in the United States Air Force on active duty and the reserves. Mr. Josey owned and operated Colony Feed Company for 51 years as a distributor for Purina and FRM feeds. He loved the outdoors and was at his happiest on the tractor at the farm. He enjoyed hunting and fishing as well. He was a member of Westside Baptist Church for over 50 years where he served as a Deacon and Trustee and earned Perfect Attendance in Sunday school for many years.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Avis Lewis Josey of Fitzgerald; daughter: Cathy Josey Spooner & James of Monroe; two sons: Kenneth Josey & Jackie of Fitzgerald and Glenn Josey of Tifton; grandchildren: Kimberly Josey Tapp & Carson, Heather Spooner Royals & Aaron, Crysta Spooner Prain & Taylor, Lance Spooner, and Landon Spooner; and great-grandchildren: Brock Tapp, Mason Tapp, Charlee Grace Tapp, Adalynn Royals, and Lennon Prain. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters: Elsie Mae Josey and LaVerne Josey; and two brothers: Troy Josey and Bobby Josey.
