Obituary

Malvina (Bettencourt) DaSilva, 88, a longtime Lowell resident, passed away peacefully after a brief illness at Lowell General Hospital on Friday, February 16, 2024. She was the widow of the late Manuel DaSilva who passed away in 2017.
 
She was born on February 10, 1936 in Graciosa, Azores, Portugal, a daughter of the late Manuel E. Bettencourt and the late Maria G. (DeSousa) Bettencourt. She was raised and educated in Graciosa. She married and started her family in Graciosa and in 1974 she and her family immigrated to the United States and settled in Lowell.  She worked as a stitcher at various local shoe shops, most notably Carroll Shoe, where she spent many years before her retirement.

She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Her happiest moments were preparing amazing meals for her family’s Sunday dinner or sitting in the backyard on summer days with her grandchildren or friends.  She was a communicant of St. Anthony Church in Lowell and was a member of the Holy Ghost Society in Lowell. She will be missed dearly by all who loved her and will always be remembered as a wonderful mother, grandmother, aunt and friend.
 
She is survived by her son Joe Silva and his wife, Hildeberta M. Silva of Hudson, NH, her grandchildren; Samantha Silva  and Shawn SIlva, both of Pelham, Christopher Silva of Lowell, Erica Perez and her husband, Ruben Perez of Lowell and Derek Silva of Lowell; her great grandchildren, Jaiden Mercado, Ryan Silva and Caleb Perez and many nieces and nephews.
 
She was the mother of the late Sidonio Silva, sister of the late Maria H. Lima, the late Manuel Bettencourt, the late Crisolinda Silva, and the late Maria Lourdes Ramos.
 
On Tuesday, February 20, 2024 all are welcome to attend her calling hours from 4-8 p.m. at McDonough Funeral Home, 14 Highland Street, Lowell 978-458-6816. Her funeral will begin on Wednesday, February 21, 2024 morning at 9 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by her funeral mass at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony Church, 893 Central Street, Lowell.
