Obituary

CHICOPEE – Paul F. Thomas, DMD, 89, of the Aldenville section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Monday, February 12, 2024. He was born in Holyoke on March 31, 1934, a third generation lifelong resident of Aldenville. He was the beloved son of the late Fred W. and Edna R. (Larose) Thomas. An active communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Aldenville, he attended their parochial school, Saint Joan of Arc School. Dr. Thomas graduated from Assumption Preparatory School and Assumption College, both in Worcester. He later graduated Tufts University Dental School in Boston. On August 31, 1957 at Sainte Rose de Lima Church, he was fortunate to wed his late wife, Elizabeth P. (McMahon) Thomas who was Called Home on February 24, 2014. He served his country in the United States Air Force and attained the rank of Captain. Following his military service, he returned to Chicopee where he practiced dentistry until his retirement in 2001 and had served as an active member of many professional organizations. His marriage to his wife blessed them with three loving children, David A. Thomas who was Called Home on January 17, 2017, Daniel F. Thomas, DDS and his wife, Leonora, of South Hadley and Susan I. Thomas Tryba of Chicopee; and four cherished grandchildren, Bertram Thomas and his partner, Mallory Donelan, Zoe Thomas and Hailey and Mason Tryba. He also leaves his sister in law, Lorraine Dube and her husband, Rene, of Wilbraham; his five nieces and nephews; and his many extended family members and friends. In addition to his parents, wife and son, he was predeceased by his two sisters and brothers in law, Annette Campbell and her husband, Gerard, and Juliette DeMers and her husband, Robert. His Funeral will be held on Thursday, February 22, 2024 beginning at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 594 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His Burial will follow the Mass at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, February 21, 2024 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The parking lot and main entrance of the funeral home are located in the rear at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His family requests that memorial donations be made in his memory to Saint Joan of Arc School, 587 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020 or the Shriners Hospital for Children, 516 Carew Street, Springfield, MA 01104 or a charitable organization of the donor’s choice.
