Obituary

Laconia-Normand Andrew Goupil, 66, of 55 Warren Street died Saturday morning, July 8, 2006 at Lakes Region General Hospital after a sudden illness.

Normand was the son of the late Joseph and Rose (Remillard) Goupil. He was born in Laconia on December 4, 1939 and had been a life long resident.

Normand was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church in Laconia, and a leader of the Prayer Group as well as a member of the Prayer Line. He also served as an usher for many years and was actively involved in the Ham & Bean Suppers at the church.

Prior to his retirement Normand worked for 24 years as a foreman for the former L. M. Pike & Sons, Inc, now Pike Industires, Inc. He was well known as the neighborhood care keeper, AKA: the Mayor of Warren Street. Working for and helping others was his passion, a familiar winter scene was to see him behind the wheel of his pick up truck plowing the neighborhood. Any children entering the premises all knew him as “Pepere”, and his yard was the playground of Warren Street. He loved children and they loved him, as he was still babysitting until the day he died.

Normand was predeceased by a brother, Lionel Goupil.

Normand is survived by his wife of 46 years, Alyce T. (LaPlante) Goupil of Laconia, three sons, Normand A. Goupil, Jr. of Laconia, Joseph Goupil and his wife Angela of Belmont, and Lynn Goupil and his wife Marianne of Sanbornton, four daughters, Kathleen Bryant and her husband Tony of Louisiana, Maria Ellsworth and her husband Dwight of Belmont, Sue DeNauw and her husband Cary of Laconia, and Elaina Shuten and her husband Ron of Belmont, one brother Leonce “Pete” Goupil of Laconia, two sisters, Cecile Hardy of Belmont, and Rachel Perkins of Gilmanton. 13 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews also survive Normand.
