D. M. "Arthur" Dowdy, Sr., 61, of Enigma passed away Monday, January 19, 2004, in Tifton. His funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 21, 2004, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with the Rev. Bruce Langley and the Rev. Larry Cone officiating.
Buck McCranie, Donald Chambless, Bo Eaton, David Tawzer, Tim Carter and Raiford Barnes served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Mark White, Phil Cavenaugh, Donald Massey, Charles Cone, Wendell Lovett, Earl Lovett, J. T. Goff, Ricky Barnes and Raymond Barnes.
Born April 26, 1942, in Turner County Mr. Dowdy was the son of the late Hez Dowdy and Mattie Leverett Dowdy. He was also preceded in death by three brothers. Before retiring, he was a crop duster; and he was a member of Corinth Freewill Baptist Church in Brookfield.
Mr. Dowdy is survived by his wife, Bootsie Dowdy of Enigma; one son and daughter-in-law, Buddy and Angie Dowdy of Enigma; one daughter and son-in-law, DoBe and Kelly Ward of Enigma; four sisters, Ruby Israel of Albany, Edna Broome of Enigma, Louise Blackaby of Louisville, Kentucky and Darlene Tillman of Moultrie; and four grandchildren, Douglas Dowdy III, Derek Dowdy, Alex Carter and Ande Carter.
