WORCESTER-Marjorie J. Porter, 78 of 1183 Main Street died Monday November 12th in UMass Memorial Healthcare after an illness. She leaves many cousins located throughout the U.S.
She was born in Worcester daughter of Albert W. and Florence J. (Leslie) Porter and lived here all her life. She was a graduate of South High School and Salter Secretarial School. Ms. Porter had been employed as a secretary for Thomson Steel and Wire Company later known as Concord Wire, she retired as a company sales representative after 48 years. She was the Charter President of the National Secretary Association, a member of the Republican National Committee and a member of the Worcester Civic Music Association. In 1992 she became a member of the Board of Visitors of the Washburn House and was immediately appointed as Secretary to the Board. She remained on the Board as Secretary continuing after she became a resident and remained in that capacity until her death. She was a long time member of Bethany Christian United Parish and served as Clerk for Sessions for many years. She loved to travel.
A memorial service will be held Saturday December 1st at 11:00 AM in Bethany Christian United Church, 1189 Main Street. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Washburn House, 1183 Main Street, Worcester, MA 01603. Funeral arrangements are being directed by O'Connor Brothers Funeral Home, 592 Park Avenue, Worcester.
