Cecil McKinley Westbrook, 84, of Omega passed away Wednesday, April 13, 2005, at Tift Regional Medical Center. His funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 15, 2005, at Bethel Baptist Church in Omega with the Rev. Dr. Howard Burke, the Rev. Larry Layfield and the Rev. Bobby DuBose officiating. Mr. Westbrook was laid to rest at Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery in Omega.
Reuben Westbrook, Jr., Don Baker, Tommy Baker, Terry Green, Mark Westbrook, Perry Westbrook, Jr. and Ronnie Baker served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were the men of Bethel Baptist Church in Omega.
Born May 9, 1922, in Omega (Tift County), Mr. Westbrook was the son of the late William McKinley Westbrook and Edna Deloris Willis Westbrook. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Frances Braddy Westbrook, who died in 1979; his second wife, Wanda Dyer Pendleton Westbrook, who died in 1997; one daughter, Brenda Gail Greene Westbrook; one sister; and three brothers. before retiring, he was a heavy equipment operator; and he was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Omega. He joined the Army in 1940 and served in the Army Air Corps from 1944-1947. He was a Pearl Harbor survivor of which he was a life member and President of that group. He was a life member and chaplain of Post #38 in Tifton; a life member and trustee of the VFW Post #5250 in Tifton; retired Chaplain of the Reserve Officers Association; and a member of the American Legion Post #21 in Tifton.
Mr. Westbrook is survived by one brother, Bobby Westbrook of Warner Robins; one sister, Deloris Perry of Marietta; one grandson, Tal Green of Leesburg; and three great-grandchildren.
