Obituary

WEBSTER – Arthur L. Winship, III, 67, died Tuesday, January 16, 2024 at home after a period of declining health. His wife of over 25 years, Susan D. (Grout) Winship, died in 2001.

He leaves a daughter, Jennifer M. Winship and her husband Christopher Colon of Athol; a son, Arthur S. Winship of Webster; 7 grandchildren, Nicole Winship, Kiana Colon, Zander Colon, Xavier Colon, Tyler Winship, Lily Winship and Dylan Winship; a sister, Debra Winship of Colrain; nephews and nieces. He also leaves his beloved white bulldog Amos.

He was born on February 9, 1956 in Pleasanton, CA, the son of Arthur L. Winship II and Madeline (Payson) Winship. He lived in the Greenfield area, Douglas and Holden before moving to Webster in 2002.

Known as “AW3”, Mr. Winship worked over 40 years for Wyman-Gordon Company in Grafton, first as a steel worker and then as the union steward for Steel Workers’ Union #2285. He retired in 2018.

He was a member of Saint Louis Church. He loved living on Webster Lake where he enjoyed fishing and taking pontoon boat rides around the lake.
He owned a 1981 Corvette that he worked on and took long drives with his buddy Amos in the front passenger seat.

The funeral will be held Friday, January 26, at 11:00 AM in Saint Louis Church, 14 Lake Street (please meet at the church). Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Thursday, January 25 in Scanlon Funeral Service, 38 East Main Street. Donations in his name may be made either to Huntington’s Disease Society of America, 505 Eighth Avenue, Suite 1402, New York, NY 10018 or to Saint Louis Church, 15 Lake Street, Webster, MA 01570.
