Obituary

SPRINGFIELD - Raul Arroyo, 76, of the Hungry Hill section of Springfield, was Called Safely Home on Saturday, January 13, 2024. He passed into Eternal Life at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico on July 21, 1947, a beloved son of the late Juan Arroyo and Ventura Reyes. He was raised and educated in Brooklyn, New York and had moved to Springfield in 1998. He served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War and attained the rank of Airman Apprentice. He received the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with Two Bronze Stars and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. He was employed for many years with the New York City Municipal Laundromat in New York City. He leaves his beloved wife and best friend, Maria Perez; his three loving children, Ivette Cates and her husband, Michael, of Chesapeake, VA and Raul Arroyo and Anthony Arroyo and his wife, Jenicia, all of Springfield; his eight cherished grandchildren; his two cherished great grandchildren; his dear sister, Mary Benezra of Florida; his dear niece, Lillian Benezra; his dear nephew, Raymond Mendez; and his many dear extended family members and friends. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his two dear brothers, Angel Louis Arroyo and Candi Arroyo. His family will receive friends on Thursday, January 18, 2024 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107. His relatives and friends are invited for Final Goodbyes on Friday, January 19, 2024 at 9 a.m. at the Funeral Home followed by his Committal Service with United States Navy Military Honors at 11 a.m. in the Chapel at the Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam, MA 01001.
