Obituary

Richard F. “Dick” Norris, age 89, of Malden, formerly of Winchester, MA, Conway, NH and Ft. Myers, FL, passed away on January 9, 2024, lovingly surrounded by his family. He was the beloved husband of the late Maryalyce R. (Rehm) Norris for 58 years until her passing in 2016.

Born in Cambridge, Dick was the son of the late Fenton and Lois (Woods) Norris. He was raised and educated in Belmont and was a graduate of Belmont High School Class of 1952. He proudly served as a Sergeant in the Army during the Korean War. When he was discharged, he continued his education at the New England Institute of Applied Arts and Sciences in Boston, and began a long and respected Funeral Service career.

Mr. Norris owned and operated the Norris Funeral Home in Winchester for many years, where he served bereaved families with dignity and respect, and made many lifelong friends.

In his spare time, Dick was a dedicated member of the William Parkman Lodge of Masons for sixty-six years, and proudly held the honorable role of District Deputy Grandmaster. As a member of the Shriners Aleppo Temple, served as Potentate in 1984 and kept in contact with his fellow NE Potentates. He served on the Board of Governors for the Shriners Hospitals for many years. He loved to travel and took many trips outside of the USA with his fellow Shriners.
He was a member of the Scottish and York Rites, the Jesters and Boston Commandery No 2 Knights Templar where he served as Eminent Commander and later, Treasurer.

In Winchester, Dick was a member of the Winchester Rotary Club, having served as President, and was always actively involved in the town. He was also a longtime member of Crawford United Methodist Church.

He enjoyed skiing and hiking in the White Mountains. He also loved camping and took many trips across the country with his family. He owned a boat and enjoyed trips to Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard. Dick also got his pilot’s license and flew small planes.

In retirement, he and Maryalyce divided their time between Conway, NH and Ft. Myers, FL.

Dick is lovingly survived by his children: Sheryl Norris of Malden, Richard “Rick” Norris, Jr. of GA and Stephen Norris of Malden. He also leaves behind his grandchildren: Peter, Kyle and his wife Hillary, Ryan and his wife Brittny, Michael and Chad, and great-grandchildren Willa Jane and Artemus Wynnston. A grandson, Patrick Norris, predeceased him. He was also the dear brother of Deborah Ruth (Norris) Matthews of OH, and leaves behind several nieces and nephews.

Visiting Hours will be held at the Costello Funeral Home, 177 Washington St., Winchester, on Wednesday, January 17, from 4-7PM, with a Masonic Service at 6:30 PM. Burial will be private.
