Obituary

“UnitedJohn P. Collins, a resident of Quincy and a former 72-year resident of Charlestown, passed away tragically on Wednesday, January 3, 2024, at South Shore Hospital in Weymouth. He was 85 years of age.

John was born in Boston on September 28, 1938, a son of the late Patrick J. Collins and Rita (Parsons) Collins. He grew up in Charlestown where he was educated in the Boston Public School System and graduated from Charlestown High School. John enlisted into the United States Coast Guard on January 15, 1957. He was honorably discharged on January 13, 1961, with the rank of Seaman. John worked as a locksmith for the City of Boston for several years, and later for Harvard University from 1977 to 1998. John was an incredible artist who also enjoyed to read, write poetry, and draw in his spare time.

John is the beloved husband of the late Jean (Conley) Collins. He is the loving father of John P. Collins Jr. and his wife Sheila, and Patrick J. Collins and his wife Jaime. He is the beloved Pa to Kevin, Jimmy, Genevieve, Nicholas, Joseph, Brittany, Matthew, Ryan, LCpl Shane USMC, Shealeen, and to his great-grandson Khyri. He is the dear brother of Rita Carbonello, and the late Mary Eaton and James Collins. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend John's Funeral Mass on Saturday, January 13, 2024, at 10 A.M. in St. Mary's Church, 55 Warren St. Charlestown. Parking attendants provided. His burial will be private. There are no funeral home visiting hours.
