Wilbur J. “Jerry” Sheehan, 72, 0f Vernon, Connecticut formerly of Mansfield died on Friday June 30, 2006 at Saint Camillus Health Center in Northbridge, MA
Born in Taunton, MA on November 3, 1933 he was a loving son of the late Edmund J. and Ethel M. (White) Sheehan.
He was educated in Mansfield schools and had attended Boston University. In 1953 he entered The U.S. Navy. He served for 4 years during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged in 1957 with the rank of TMT3.
As a boy Jerry was always fascinated with airplanes, and after being discharged from the navy he pursued his dream of becoming a pilot. He began an aviation career learning to fly in his hometown at Mansfield Airport. He went on to become a Certified Flight Instructor at Mansfield Airport. He also achieved his multiengine instrument & airline transportation ratings. He went on to work for Northern Airways in Vermont, then to Executive Airlines at Logan Airport. Before retiring he served as a Corporate Pilot for Attorney F. Lee Bailey. After retirement he worked for the Hydro Honing Co. in East Hartford, Connecticut, serving in various capacities.
Jerry was a member of the Quiet Birdmen and was a member of the Confederate Air Force. He enjoyed times spent with his family. He had lived in Vernon for the past 18 years and was formerly of Mansfield.
He is survived by his devoted sisters and brother; Ann C. Moreshead of Grafton, Jane R. Drolet of Sutton and Philip T. Sheehan of Mansfield. Also survived by his many loving nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Saturday July 8th from 4-7 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home 55 North Main St. Mansfield. A prayer service will immediately follow at 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Burial will be held at a later date in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Mansfield.
Following the prayer services all are invited back to the Mansfield Airport on Fruit St. in Mansfield for a time of fellowship and refreshments.
In lieu of flowers, Jerry’s family has requested that donations in his memory be made to the American Cancer Society 30 Speen St. Framingham, MA 01701
