Obituary

Judith Ann (Carey) Friar was born on Saturday, March 24, 1945, and peacefully passed away on Saturday, December 30, 2023, surrounded by her family. Judi was a resident of Westport, MA, and Brewster, MA. She was formerly of Belmont, MA. Judi was the beloved wife of Atty. Ronald E. Friar for 58 years, and the daughter of the late George E. Jr. and Mary E. (Haley) Carey of Brewster, MA.

Judi and Ron shared an inseparable love, turning every day into a date. She adored her family and especially loved watching her grandsons play sports, from youth to college. A day at Brewster beach with her book was heaven on Earth. She found joy in the beauty of her flower gardens. She was an excellent athlete in her own right, captaining her sports teams at Belmont High. She graduated from Framingham State College and dutifully served the children and community of Swansea, MA, for 38 years as a decorated fourth grade teacher with the Joseph G. Luther Elementary School.

Judi was the caring, mindful mother of Atty. Michael Friar and his wife Maria of Westport, MA, and the proud, loving grandmother of Nicholas Friar and his wife Lauren of Nashua, NH, and Jacob Friar and his wife Kylie, of Trumbull, CT. Judi was the sister of Jimmy Carey of Ipswich, MA, George Carey of Brewster, MA, and the late David Carey of Amherst, NH, as well as an aunt to many nieces and nephews.
