Carroll Ray Woods, 73, of Tifton passed away Tuesday, May 10, 2005, at his residence. His funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 12, 2005, at Carpenter Road Church of God in Tifton with the Rev. Ronnie Luke, the Rev. William "Billy" Sumner and the Rev. Bill Barksdale officiating. Mr. Woods was laid to rest at Tift Memorial Gardens.
Ray Woods, Danny Walker, Larry Walker, Earl Blanchard, Gary Tucker, Kevin Ray, Grady Duckworth and Silas Spradley served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Bobby Kirkland, William Lasseter, Dale Lasseter, Michael Paul Lasseter, Luther Walker, Shon McMillan, Jason Wade, Warren Daniel, Jerome Houle, Bobby Rice, Larry Heard, Shane Fountain, Arlie Purvis, N. C. Spradley and Bill Johnson.
Born October 22, 1931, in Irwin County, Mr. Woods was the son of the late Johna Bergman Woods and Annie McMillian Woods. He was also preceded in death by three sisters. He was a member of Carpenter Road Church of God in Tifton, where he held several positions over the years; and he was a member of the Young at Heart Group. He was a member and retired field representative from Woodmen of the World Insurance Company, where he was very successful with outstanding sales and service, and he received numerous awards, trips and recognition in his line of work. He received the Fraternal Spirit Away twice in the local Woodmen of the World Lodge. He was an Outstanding Farmer for many years and owned and established "Woods Country Estates Subdivision." He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He had lived in Tift County for 43 years.
Mr. Woods is survived by his wife of 54 years, Frances Ray Woods, of Tifton; four sons and daughters-in-law, Bobby Carroll and Susan Woods of Cumming, James Roger and Sharon Woods of Albany and Darrell Kenneth and Sonya Woods and Donald Keith and Cheryl Woods, all of Tifton; two brothers, J. B. "Junior" Woods, Jr. and A. C. Woods, both of Tifton; two sisters, Johnnie Tucker of Havana, Florida and Willie D. Lawhorn of Tifton; eleven grandchildren, Keith, Chris, Mary, Shannon Carroll, Christy, Jason, Kyle, Tyler, Heather, Joshua and Hannah Woods; four step-grandchildren, Lee Hill, Freddy Hodson, Heidi and Russ Beamon; and two great-grandchildren, Nathan and Issac Carroll Woods.
