George A. Carpenito, passed away on Sunday morning at the Melrose - Wakefield Hospital, Melrose, he was 90 years old. The husband of manuella R. “Ella” (Pasquariello) for 63 years, he was born in Montefalcione, Avelino, Italy and was the son of the late Francesca (D´Amore) and Giovanni Carpenito. A resident of Medford for over 50 years Mr. Carpenito wintered in Del Ray Beach, Florida.
George was a produce buyer working many years for G. Giovino Brothers located at the Quincy Market (Fanuel Hall), and Maharis and Steinberg of the Chelsea Market before he and his family started their own produce company with a horse and team selling produce. Yankee Boy Tomato and Banana Co. Of Boston expanded and prospered with his hard work.
During his retirement George enjoyed taking care of lawns and gardening for his family, and particulary enjoyed the company of his grandchildren.
Surviving in adition to his wife “Ella” are his two sons, Vincent G. and his wife Patricia of New Hampshire, Louis J. and his wife Jeannette of Marshfied, one daughter Louise M. Marotta and her husband Angelo of Medford. Five loving grandchildren, Kim and Joya Marotta, Eric, Christine and Steven Carpenito.
Also survived by two sisters, Mary Santoniello of Saugus, and Alice Pagliuca of Boston, two brothers Alfred Carpenito of Medford and Ernest Carpenito of Boston. He is predeceased by three brothers John, Philip and Carmen “Tony” Carpenito and a sister Julia Carpenito.
Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
His funeral will be held from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St. Medford, on Thursday, August 22, at 10 a.m., followed by a funeral mass in St. Joseph Church at 11. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
