BROCKTON - Dorothy L. (Ledwell) Chipman, 77, of Brockton, formerly of Abington, died Friday, June 30, 2006, at her daughter’s house in Bellingham after a lengthy illness. She was the wife of the late William G. Chipman.
Born Dec. 22, 1928, in Weymouth, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Adelaide (MacKay) Ledwell.
Raised in Abington, Mrs. Chipman was a graduate of Abington High School, Class of 1946, and graduated Suma cum Laude in 1977 from Northeastern University, where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting.
She was a field office chief for the Division of Industrial Security.
Mrs. Chipman had been a resident of Brockton for the past 46 years.
She was a longtime member of the Pythian Sisters and enjoyed dancing, sewing and ceramics.
She is survived by her children, Michael Kyser of Houston, TX, Meredith Walbrun of Green Bay, WI., and Andrea Auger of Bellingham; two sisters, Marion Stevenson of Taunton, and Catherine Wood of Tucson, AZ. Also survived by eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was also mother of the late Regina Kyser and sister of the late Lawrence Ledwell.
Her funeral service will be held in the Prophett Funeral Home, 98 Bedford St. (Rte. 18), Bridgewater, Friday at 10 am. Visiting hours are Thursday 4-8 pm.
