Florence C. (Clark) Hartwell, 94, of Mansfield died on Friday June 30, 2006 at Caritas Norwood Hospital in Norwood, MA. She was the beloved wife of the late Edward A. Hartwell, Jr. to whom she was married to for 42 years at the time of his death on February 5, 1978.
Born in Brockton, MA on May 18, 1912 she was a loving daughter of the late Howard and Anna (Helgesen) Clark.
Florence grew up in Brockton and was a 1928 graduate of Brockton High School. She also attended the Brockton Hospital School of Nursing.
She was a retired Clerk having worked at the former Southwood Community Hospital in Norfolk for 10 years prior to retiring in 1972. She had also worked at the former Lilly’s Drugstore in Mansfield.
She had attended the First Baptist Church in Mansfield. She was a 50 year member of the Order of Eastern Star Angle Stone Chapter in North Attleboro. After retiring she volunteered her time at both the Southwood Community Hospital and at the Mansfield Council on Aging.
Florence enjoyed reading and knitting, but especially enjoyed spending time with her loving grandchildren. She had lived in Mansfield for the past 70 years and was formerly of Brockton.
She is survived by her devoted children Edward A. Hartwell III and his wife Barbara of Windham, New York and Jane L. Hartwell of Mansfield. Her cherished grandchildren Alison Petraco and her husband Nicholas of Astoria, New York and Matthew Hartwell of Hillsboro, New Hampshire. She was the sister of the late Howard Clark.
Funeral services, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Monday July 3rd at 11:00 A.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home 55 North Main St. Mansfield. Burial will follow in the Spring Brook Cemetery, Mansfield.
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday July 2nd from 4-7 P.M. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers Florence’s family has requested that donations in her memory be made to either the Mansfield Shelter Friends Building Fund P.O. Box 25 Mansfield, MA 02048 or to the Citizens Scholarship Foundation P.O. Box 23 Mansfield, MA 02048.
