Obituary

November 27, 2023, Gail Allie (Mitchell) Owens, 83, of Franklin, and Hillsdale, New York, passed away peacefully with her beloved husband Vincent “Vinny” William Owens and her cat, Bella, by her bedside.

Gail is survived by her devoted children: Marsha Mills and husband Douglas of Merrick, New York; Michael Hotaling and fiancé Beth Wasner Kitsock of Hillsdale, New York; John Owens and wife Helen of Franklin, Massachusetts; and she was preceded in death by her daughter Brenda Hotaling. Gail was the cherished grandmother of Lindsie, Gregory, Matthew, Melissa, Reagan, and Reese, and the proud great-grandmother of Chloe, Tyler, and Jayce.

Gail was born on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17, 1940 (a sign that her future husband would be an Irishman?), to Earl and Clara Montague Mitchell in Hillsdale, New York. Gail's familial roots run deep in the town, tracing back to the 1800s. She was one of ten beloved siblings, embracing the joy of a large, close-knit family. Alongside her husband, Gail co-owned Hillsdale Electronics, becoming integral fixtures on Main Street and within the community for many decades.

Gail's devotion to family was evident in her love for gathering them together, creating enduring memories during vacations and cruises. She exuded a competitive spirit, reigning as the family champ in softball, badminton, croquet, and ping pong. Her laughter, sense of humor, and vibrant personality made her the life of the party, endearing her to all who knew her. Her absence leaves an irreplaceable void in the hearts of those who loved her. She will be missed tremendously.

May Gail “Mom” soar with the angels, rejoice in the warmth of the Lord, and find comfort in being reunited with departed loved ones. May her soul rest in eternal peace, comforted by the love that surrounds her.
A celebration of Gail’s life and legacy will be held in the Spring at her family home in Hillsdale, NY.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in her name to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America (http://www.alzfdn.org) or HopeHealth Hospice & Palliative Care of Providence Rhode Island (http://www.hopehealthco.org).
