Obituary

Alyce (Aliki) Savas was born on August 9, 1923 in Watertown, MA. Her father was Frank (Francesco) Angel who was from the town of Petra on the island of Lesvos, Greece. Her mother who was of Greek Descent, Smaro Paragoglou, was from the Asia Minor section of Turkey. They immigrated to Watertown, MA sometime between 1915-1920. They had 2 other children Byron F. Angel & Diana Angel Proctor both who predeceased Alyce.

She grew up in Watertown, went to Watertown Public Schools & Bryant Secretarial School. On February 5, 1950 she married Michael J. Savas (Mike) of Watertown. Mike & Alyce resided Watertown from 1950-1995. In 1950 Mike & Alyce built a summer cottage in Popponesset Beach in Mashpee, MA. Alyce & her family loved the beach and enjoyed delightful summer vacations there. In 1995, they bought a condo in Bishops Forest, Waltham. Alyce & Michael had 2 children, Jim & Dawn. Alyce was a home-maker for her family. For many years she worked at the ladies department at Lohman's in Burlington, MA. Alyce took great pride in her appearance. She had quite a customer following, whom she assisted in selecting their attire. Alyce & Mike loved to travel. Some of their memorable trips were to Greece, California & Hawaii. From the late 1980's until Mike's passing in 2009, they went to Florida for extended time in the winter. They stayed at Cape Coral & Fort Meyers. Many of their life long friends had moved to that area of Florida and it became Watertown South. Alyce & Mike were life-long members & stewarts of the Watertown Taxiarchae Greek Orthodox Church of Watertown, MA.

Alyce was devoted mother of James M. Savas and his wife Aida, and Dawn Savas-Reale and her husband Charles. Cherished grandmother of Michael Savas and his wife Amanda, Alana Vacca, Vanessa Savas and her wife Chris Haigh, Joseph Vacca and his wife Melissa Jacobs. Loving great-grandmother of Sophiya Jacobs, Levi and Mylo Vacca, Calliope, Everly and Truly Savas.

Visiting hours at the Taxiarchae Church 25 Bigelow Ave, Watertown, MA 02472 on Friday, December 1st from 10-11:00 AM followed by a Funeral Services beginning at 11:00AM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Interment at Ridgelawn Cemetery, Watertown, MA. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the above-named church in her memory.
