Joyce “Dilys” Chasteen, age 83, of 1939 Center Groton Road, Ledyard, formerly of Old Mystic, died Monday morning at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital where she had been a patient since July 5th.
She was born in Mitcham, England on June 14, 1919 the daughter of John Pryce Williams and Margaret (Jones) Williams. Raised in England, she served with the British Land Army during World War II and later worked as a secretary at NATO headquarters in Paris.
Dilys was well known throughout New England among obedience dog trainers having trained poodles and irish wolf hounds. She also served as assistant trainer at the Dolphin Dog Training Center at the US Sub base.
She is survived by her husband, Kenneth J. Chasteen who she married in London in 1956.
A Farewell Service will be conducted at The Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Historic downtown Mystic on Friday at 3pm. There are no visiting hours.
