Obituary

Nicolina (LoRusso) Matarazzo of Medford passed away on November 21st at home surrounded by her loving family. Nicolina was the beloved wife of the late Angelo Matarazzo. Born in Anzano di Puglia, Italy on April 4, 1933, she was the cherished daughter of the late Giovanni and Antonia (Staffiere) LoRusso. Nicolina enjoyed 90 chapters in her great book of life!

Nicolina traveled to America through New York on the ship S.S. Volcania on December 7, 1947. In January 1953, she met and married Angelo Matarazzo in Caracas, Venezuela. She went on to have five children. Lina was as beautiful on the inside as she was on the outside. Lina was kind, compassionate and generous and she had a way of making everybody feel special. The light and love she brought to the lives of those around her will be sorely missed. Lina had a very colorful personality, and if you knew her then you would know. Lina loved colors and she would want us to dress as though we were attending a celebration of her life, and not her death.

Nicolina was the devoted mother of Maria Loughran and her late husband Edward of Medford, Gina Matarazzo and her husband Frank DelTorto of Saugus, Angela Matarazzo-Alves and her husband David of Boston, Joanna Matarazzo-Littlefield and her husband David of Clearwater, FL, and Anthony Matarazzo and his wife Kelly of Medford. She was the cherished grandmother of Nicole O’Toole and her husband Thomas, Andrea Littlefield, Sean Loughran, Anthony Matarazzo, Danielle DelTorto, Talia Matarazzo and Derrick Littlefield. Nicolina is also survived by her loving cousin and friends, Angela and Paul Tarantino and their family, her dear friend and neighbor for 40 years, Josephine Brogna and her family as well as many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit at the Dello Russo Funeral Home 306 Main St. Medford on Monday, November 27, from 3-8 PM and again on Tuesday, November 28, at 9AM followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Joseph Church, 118 High Street, Medford, at 10AM. Services will conclude with entombment in Holy Cross Chapel Mausoleum, Malden.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory can be made to Wee Care Burlington 10 Saint Marks Road Burlington, MA. 01803 or to www.weecare4kids.org.
