Irene (O’Rourke) Devaney, 73, of Medford, passed away on Wednesday, November 15, 2023, at Courtyard Nursing Care Center in Medford MA.
Born in Medford, she had been an area resident all her life. Irene graduated from Girls Catholic High School in Malden and completed her degree from Boston State College in three years. After graduation, she taught elementary school at Columbus School in Medford.
Irene enjoyed spending time with her family. She was an active, long-time, member of AA, and very involved at the Medford Senior Center. The staff at Courtyard Nursing Care loved Irene and she considered them as a second family.
She was predeceased by her parents; Bernard and Florence (Dwyer) O’Rourke, sister; MaryAnn Kleyle, brother Daniel, and brother-in-law; Eugene Leahy. Irene is survived by her husband Michael Devaney and her siblings: Bernadette Leahy of Methuen, MA, Kathleen and her husband Larry Seavers of Charlotte, NC, Cathy (Cornelio) O’Rourke of Wilmington, MA, sister-in-law, Thomas O’Rourke (twin) and his wife Carmen of Reading, MA, and Geraldine and her husband Bernard Czajkowski of Webster, MA. Family and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, from 9:00 am to 10:45 am at Beals-Geake-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 29 Governors Ave., Medford. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, at 11:30 am in St. Francis of Assisi Church, Fellsway West, Medford. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
