Obituary

Kay Thornhill Sumner, 56, of Tifton passed away Thursday, March 31, 2005, in Tifton. Her funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 2, 2005, in the Sanctuary of Tifton's First Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Wayne Roe, the Rev. Dr. W. Ches Smith, III and the Rev. Eddie Allen officiating. Mrs. Sumner was laid to rest at Oak Ridge Cemetery.

John Bassett, Chad Sumner, Dale Threadgill, David Terry, Johnny Eaton, Morgan Moon, Butch Coarsey and Michael Lindsey served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were members of her Sunday School class at Tifton's First Baptist Church, along with her Positive Thinkers investment group and close friends.

Born September 4, 1948, in Tift County, Mrs. Sumner was the daughter of Elna Willis Thornhill of Tifton and the late John Preston Thornhill. She was a homemaker; and she was an active member of Tifton's First Baptist Church. She was a member of the Positive Thinkers Investment Group, the Magnolia Garden Club and past member of the Gardenia Garden Club.

Mrs. Sumner is survived by her husband of 36 years, Ronnie J. Sumner of Tifton; one son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Susan Sumner of Hahira; one daughter and son-in-law, Celeste and Mark Robinson of Tifton; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Ted Preston and Lynn Thornhill and Roger John Thornhill, all of Tifton; one sister and brother-in-law, Anna Ruth Thornhill and Rod Harrison of Duluth; two grandchildren, Savannah Kay Sumner and Kice Stafford Sumner; four nieces; and five nephews.
