Obituary

Mary E. "Eleanor" (Hampton) Crawford, 86, of Fairhaven died August 19, 2002 at Alden Court Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Fairhaven after a long illness.

She was the wife of Russell R. Crawford, and daughter of the late Thomas H. and Agnes (Walsh) Hampton.

Mrs. Crawford was born in New Bedford and had lived in New Bedford for most of her life.

She was a communicant of the Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in New Bedford.

Eleanor originally worked in the family business, Hampton's Bakery, owned by her father for many years before being employed by Sig Midttun's Bakery in their Downtown New Bedford location, where she worked until her retirement. After her retirement, she and her husband Russell spent their winters in Florida at their Rolling Greens' home, playing golf, bowling and enjoying a variety of activities including travel. After taking up golf during her retirement, it didn't take Eleanor long to earn a trophy for shooting a "hole-in-one", for which she was very proud.

Survivors include her husband; a sister, Florence Boswell of New Bedford; sister-in-law Louise Bain of Dartmouth; several nieces and nephews, Sandra F. Gauthier, also her godchild, of Lakeville; Kyle Gauthier, also her godchild, and Neil Gauthier, both of Lakeville, Tom Messier of Billerica, MA, Robert Messier of Lakeville, Linda Bain of Virginia, Bobby Bain of Hingham, MA, Raymond Boswell of Worcester, MA and Jeannie Boswell of New Bedford.

She was the sister of the late Margaret Messier.

Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New BedfordThursday, August 22nd at 8 AM.Funeral Mass at Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church at 9 AM.Relatives and friends are invited to attend.

Visiting hours Wednesday, August 21st from 2-5 PM.

Interment Riverside Cemetery.
