Ezell Pitts Luke, 87, of Tifton passed away Friday, January 14, 2005, at her residence. Her funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 17, 2005, at Tift Avenue Church of God with the Rev. Joseph L. Crumley and the Rev. Billy Dawson officiating. Mrs. Luke was laid to rest at Union Grove Church of God Cemetery in Eldorado.
Dale Hall, Wendell Hall, Mitchell Dorough, Randy Dorough, Jim Luke and Kendall Luke served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Ryan Rogers, Ronnie Weinberg, Jacob Hall, Christopher Franks and Richard Luke.
Born February 20, 1916, in Cleburne County, Alabama, Mrs. Luke was the daughter of the late William Sylvester Pitts and Lula Jane Williams Pitts. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Richard Gordon Luke, Sr.; one son, Rickey Luke; one grandson, Steve Dorough; one son-in-law, Jerry Dorough; five brothers, Charlie Pitts, Jake Pitts, Leon Pitts; Horace Pitts and Buford Pitts; and five sisters, Nettie Meeks, Willie Gilla, Jessie Pitts, Mattie Knight and Irene Luke. Before retiring, she was a meat cutterat Armour Packing Company in Tifton; and she was a member of Tift Avenue Church of God.
Mrs. Luke is survived by one son, Richard Gordon Luke, Jr. of Warner Robins; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Carolyn and Hubert Hall and Eunice Luke Dorough Wright, all of Tifton and Mary Alice and Clvin Franks of Astor, Florida; 15 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and several great-great grandchildren.
