Bessie McCorvey Lawson, 84, of Tifton passed away Thursday, May 26, 2005, at Tift Health Care. Her funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 28, 2005, at Union Grove Church of God in Eldorado with the Rev. Joseph L. Crumley officiated. Mrs. Lawson was laid to rest at Union Grove Church of God Cemetery in Eldorado.
Mike Drexler, Doug Roberts, Ron Lawson, Wendall Pitts, Ricky Owens, Paul Tompkins, Mike Tomberlin, Travis Ingram, Dane Roberts and Greg Darnell served as pallbearers.
Born December 19, 1920, in Tift County, Mrs. Lawson was the daughter of the late John Dan McCorvey and Mary Alice Dillard McCorvey. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Walter J. Lawson, who passed away in 1983; one brother, J.W. McCorvey; and one sister, Ola Annis. She was a homemaker; and she was a member of Tift Avenue Church of God. She was a lifelong resident of Tift County.
Mrs. Lawson is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Ronnie and Brenda Lawson of Tifton; three daughters and sons-in-law, Rudine and Vaughn Cromer, Kathy and Farrell Roberts and Wylene and Albert Drexler, all of Tifton; three brother, Marvin McCorvery and Bobbie McCorvey, both of Nashville and Evans McCorvey of Albany; one sister, Mary Sumner of Nashville; ten grandchildren and their spouses, Dallas and Travis Ingram, Doug and Heather Roberts, Dane Roberts, Lynda and Paul Tompkins, Phyllis and Wendall Pitts, Mike and Christie Drexler, Renee and Ricky Owens, Carla and Greg Darnell, Ron and Jenny Lawson and Collette and Mike Tomberlin; and 14 great-grandchildren.
