George Perry "G.P." Luke, 90, of Tifton passed away Monday, January 17, 2005, at his residence. His funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 19, 2005, at Pine Grove Baptist Church in Berrien County with the Rev. Jim Williams officiating. Mr. Luke was laid to rest at Pine Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Berrien County.
Danny White, Mike Luke, Brian Blanchett, Jamie Luke, Corey Luke, Greg Luke and Brandon Luke served as pallbearers.
Born February 20, 1914, in Berrien County, Mr. Luke was the son of the late Richard Luke and Margaret Griner Luke. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Willie Luke, Ed Luke and R.G. Luke; and six sisters, Ava Rutherford, Eliza Duren, Ellen Luke, Lizzie Giddens, Ethel Hoover and Merintha Hall. He was a retired farmer; and he served on the Board of Education for the Berrien County School System. He had been a Master Mason for 50 years.
Mr. Luke is survived by his wife, Mary Lawson Luke of Tifton; four sons and daughters-in-law Franklin and Sherrell Luke of Cecil, Sonny and Susan Luke, Richard and Paula Luke and Randy and Mandy Luke, all of Tifton; four daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Charles Markham of Ty Ty, Bernice and Leon White of Tifton and Penny and Jerry Brogdon and Judy and Larry Hogan, all of Nashville; one sister, Florence Cleo Pitts of Tifton; 18 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
