Obituary

TAUNTON…Charles F. Ryan Jr. 89, of Taunton passed away November 3, 2023
peacefully at home surrounded by family following a brief illness.

He was the beloved husband of the late Carol A. (Finneran) who he was married to for nearly 56 years. Born in Taunton, he was the only son of the late Charles F. Ryan Sr. and the late Anna (Zadrozny) Ryan.

Affectionately known by his family as “Dad” and “Gramp”, Charlie enjoyed cooking and teaching his girls how to make a good soup, stew, meatloaf, meatballs and sauce. He enjoyed going to the bakery for fresh bread, Polish food, his daughter’s homemade apple pie, going for rides, giving directions and spending time with family; especially his grandchildren and great grandson. He was an avid sports fan who loved watching baseball, hockey and football. He was so proud of his children’s and grandchildren’s accomplishments. He loved to talk about his time in the Air Force and traveling. In his younger days, Charlie was an avid ball player and bowler.

He was survived by his devoted daughters: Susan Ryan Abbott and her husband Steven of East Freetown and Beverly Ryan-Sylvia and her husband Bill of Boca Raton, FL; his only son: Charles J. Ryan and his wife Kathy of Taunton. He also leaves behind his adored grandchildren that he shared endless memories with: Justin Ryan, his girlfriend Cameron Irish, Matthew Ryan, his wife Gina, Joseph Ryan, Madison Abbott Davoli, her husband Jared, Sydney Abbott, her fiance Zachary Medeiros, Cameron Sylvia, Jake Sylvia, his great grandson, Theo Ryan and his former daughter-in-law Tammy Reynolds. Charlie was also survived by his sister Patricia Hackett of Cranston, Carolyn Ryan of Marblehead and several nieces and nephews to whom he was affectionately known as “Uncle Sonny”. He was also the brother of the late Frances White, Alice Perry and Joan Ventura. The family deeply believe that “Gramp” is finally at peace and reunited with the love of his life “Nan”. He will continue to love and watch over his family and stay connected through his own unique signs.

In accordance with his wishes, a memorial service and burial will be held at a later date at Otis Air Force Base.
