Obituary

Antonio M. Garcia-Meitin of West Roxbury passed away on November 6, 2023. He was the beloved husband of Ivonne C. (Fernandez) Garcia-Meitin for 62 years, devoted father of Antonio M. Garcia-Meitin Jr. of West Roxbury and Jose A. Garcia-Meitin and his wife Anne of Sudbury, and loving “Abuelo” of Thomas A. Garcia-Meitin. He was the brother of Maria de Lourdes Cooper and her husband John of Coral Gables, FL and the late Maria Elena Valcarcel, Jose Antonio, Eduardo, and Francisco Garcia-Metin. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Antonio grew up in Kohly, Cuba where he rowed shells for the Havana Biltmore Club. He served among a group of Cuban heroes known as Brigade 2506. He arrived in Miami late December of 1962, and was soon followed by his entire family. He treasured moments spent celebrating life’s blessings, and especially enjoyed sharing stories about his life in a simpler time.

Visiting hours will be held at the P.E. Murray-F.J. Higgins George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home, 2000 Centre St., West Roxbury on Thursday, Nov. 9 from 6-8pm. His funeral will be held from the funeral home on Friday, Nov. 10 at 9am followed by a Funeral Mass in Holy Name Church, West Roxbury at 10am. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Interment in St. Joseph Cemetery, West Roxbury.
