Walter Oscar Collins, Jr., 82, of Tifton passed away Tuesday, July 5, 2005, at Beverly Health Care in Tifton. His funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 8, 2005, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with the Rev. Gary Minton officiating. A private funeral service and burial was held for Mr. Collins at a later date.
Born March 23, 1923, in Caroline County, Maryland, Mr. Collins was the son of the late Walter Oscar Collins, Sr. and Elsie May Jester Collins. He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Clara Adams; one step-son, David Powell; two sisters, Dorothy Collins and Marie Collins; and two brothers, Lee Collins and Sonny Collins.
Mr. Collins had lived in Tifton for 14 years; and he was a member of Ty Ty Methodist Church. He was a veteran of World War II; and was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon and the World War II Victory Ribbon.
Mr. Collins is survived by his wife, Catherine Lillian Fuller Collins of Tifton; one son and daughter-in-law, Walter Oscar III and Jean Collins of Sun Ray, Texas; three step-sons and their wives, Edward and Katherine Powell of Westminster, Maryland, Alvin Powell of Ty Ty and Joseph and Cindy Powell of Glenburnie, Maryland; four daughter and two sons-in-law, Molly Hunt and Mary Moles, both of Searcy, Arkansas, Margaret and Robert Briggs of Dexter, New Mexico, Carol and Kenneth Pierson of Snow Flake, Arizona; four step-daughters and their husbands, Catherine Tripp, Christine and Terry Kelley and Darlene Reeves, all of Tifton and Diane and William Singletary of Poulan; numerous grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and numerous great-great grandchildren.
