William "Simp" Simpson Cooper, Sr., 77, of Tifton passed away Monday, February 21, 2005, at Tift Regional Medical Center. His funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday February 24, 2005, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with the Rev. Ray Dawson officiating. Mr. Cooper was laid to rest at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
William Cooper, Jr., William Cooper, III, Ed Cooper, Wayne Cooper, Danny Cooper and Earl Ray Cooper served as pallbearers.
Born April 2, 1927, in Turner County, Mr. Cooper was the son of the late William Albert Cooper and Julia Myrtle Hill Cooper. He was also preceded in death by six brothers and four sisters. He was a retired mechanic; and he was of the Baptist faith. He served in the United States Army; and he was a former member of the Cook County Hunting Club.
Mr. Cooper is survived by his wife, Doris Blalock Cooper of Tifton; three sons, William Cooper, Jr., Jackie Cooper, both of Tifton and Jason Cooper of Sylvester; one daughter, Susan Cooper of Tifton; two sisters, Mary L. Tomberlin of Ty Ty and Ruby Louise Rooks of Hopkins, South Carolina; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
