Obituary

Meledy Harris, 65, of Austin Avenue, Smithfield, passed away on Saturday October 28th in the Stillwater Health Care in Smithfield.

Born in Providence, a daughter of the late Edward and Muriel (Lawson) Almeida. Meledy had lived in East Providence for most of her life. She had also lived in Denver, Colorado for 10 years. Meledy was a US Army veteran earning an honorable discharge in 1978. Meledy graduated from Providence College with a Bachelor of Arts in 1998. She was a customer service representative for Liberty Mutual Insurance for many years until her retirement.

Meledy was a loving and generous daughter, sister, cousin, aunt, and friend. She had an infectious laugh and loved to tell stories about growing up in East Providence as the youngest of her four sisters. Meledy loved animals especially the many cats who passed through her doors over the years. Meledy enjoyed traveling with her sisters, especially her annual trip to Vero Beach, Florida. She enjoyed cooking, was an avid reader, and enjoyed her extensive music collection.

She leaves her brother-in-laws, Howard Blackwood of Burrillville and Ramero Almeida of Riverside and Michael Salvo. She was the sister of the late Carol-Ann Blackwood, Marcia Almeida, and Candace Salvo. Aunt to Walter Blackwood and his wife, Marla, Rhonda Farrell and her husband William, Christine Enos and her husband Timothy, S. Andrew Salvo and his wife, Jenni, Monica Almeida and her husband Elgin, and Andrea Salvo. Great Aunt to; Nicholas, Joshua and Jason Blackwood, Noah and Payton Farrell, Lucas and Jacob Enos, Olivia and Isaac Tagger and Julian Davila. She leaves behind many loving cousins.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday November 4th at 11:30am in the Anderson-Winfield Funeral Home, Route 44 at Greenville Common, Greenville. Visitation Saturday morning 10:30am to 11:30am.
