Edwin Lee Clements, 71, of Tifton, died Tuesday, June 27, 2006, at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Elder Lee Chambers and Elder Maurice Riner will officiate with burial to follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Durand Deal, Earl Cook, Roger Walker, Tommy Hilton, Jimmy Benson and Freddie Cheek. Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Davis, Albert Potts, Eston Walker, Bobby Walker, Henry Boyette, Wallace Gibbs, Harvey Kendrick and Freddie Weeks. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 28, 2006, at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Born March 13, 1935 in Tifton, Mr. Clements was the son of David Leon Clements and Willie Ruth Wilson Clements, both deceased. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Leon Clements, Jr.; one sister, Betty Hill Winegard; and one granddaughter, Amber Clements.
A lifetime resident of Tifton, Mr. Clements was retired from the U. S. Department of Agriculture, Coastal Plain Experiment Station, where he was a research technician in the grass-breeding department. He was a member of Mount Olive Primitive Baptist Church in Tifton, where he served as a deacon and adult bible study teacher. He was also a veteran of the U. S. Navy. He enjoyed farming and raising cows and was a member of the Georgia Cattlemen’s Association. He deeply loved his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, his church, his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret Ledford Clements of Tifton; one son and daughter-in-law, David and Cathy Clements of Tifton; one daughter and son-in-law, Elaine and Lee Hill of Tifton; four sisters and two brothers-in-law, Jean and Billy Hilton of Tifton, Joyce George of Tifton, Sue and Harold Benson of Tifton, Faye Duckworth of Tifton; and two grandchildren, Nathan Hill and Brock Clements of Tifton.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Mount Olive Primitive Baptist Church.
