Obituary

Edward Patrick Donovan, a lifelong resident of Charlestown, died on Monday, June 26, 2006, at Glen Ridge Nursing Care Center in Medford following a short battle of failing health. Ed was 77 years old.

Ed was born in Boston on August 19, 1928, and grew up in Charlestown, where he attended St. Mary's Parochial School and graduated from Charlestown High Schoolin 1947. He enlisted in the United States Army on June 23, 1947. He was discharged as a Private on December 9, 1948. He began working for the International Longshoreman's Association in Boston and became a Foreman for their Watchman's Union Local # 809. He retired in 1997 after working for over 30 years.

"Uncle Ed" as he was referred to by his many loving nieces and nephews was the beloved son of the late James J. and Margaret (Russell) Donovan. He was the devoted brother of the late Mary Fleming, John, Russell and Christopher Donovan. He was loved and cared for by his special nephew and many other nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

"Uncle Ed's" Funeral will be held on Friday June 30, 2006, at 10:00 a.m. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill Street, Charlestown, followed by his Funeral Mass in St. Francis De Sales Church, 313 Bunker Hill Street, Charlestown, at 11:oo a.m. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours for Ed will be held on Thursday, June 29, 2006, from 4 to 8 pm. Burial will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.
