Obituary

Richard W. "Dixie" Devine, a resident of Charlestown and formerly of Tewksbury and Melrose, entered into eternal life suddenly on Monday, September 25, 2023, at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. He was 68 years of age.

Dixie was born in Saugus on February 15, 1955, a son of the late James Devine and Betty (Stickney) Devine. He grew up in Melrose where he was educated throughout the Melrose Public School system and graduated from Melrose High School in 1974. He furthered his education later in life and received his associate degree. Dixie worked as a Biotech Engineer for Alkermes in Waltham and Genzyme in Allston for several years. In his spare time, Dixie enjoyed watching football, especially the Patriots in his recliner, playing solitaire, doing crossword puzzles and watching old tv westerns. He was always known to not pass by a good yard sale in his travels. Family was paramount in Dixie's life and he enjoyed all the family gatherings and special moments he shared with his wife, children and especially his grandchildren.

Dixie is the beloved husband of 36 years to Liane F. (Schievink) Devine. He is the devoted father of Sherri Russo and her husband Pete, James Devine, and Christine Devine and her fiancé John Lessard. He is the loving Papa to Juliana Russo, Audrey Russo and Addison Lessard. He is the beloved brother of Robert Devine and the late Cindy Napolitano and Cheryl Devine. He is the beloved brother-in-law of Richard Schievink, Jack Schievink and his companion Tracey Buckley, Katie Mabardi and her husband Mitch and the late Bobby Schievink and his surviving wife Susan. He is also survived by his many loving nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Dixie's visiting hours on THURSDAY, OCTOBER 5, 2023, from 4 to 7 P.M. in The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown. His Funeral Services and burial will be private.
