Obituary

Delphine G. Vanasse, 88, of Waterman Avenue, North Providence, formerly of Village Drive, Smithfield, passed away surrounded by her family on Saturday, September 23rd in the Golden Crest Nursing Center, North Providence. She was the wife of the late Charles T. Vanasse, Sr. They had been married for 67 years.

Born in Smithfield, the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Finlay. She had lived in Smithfield for 3 years, previously living in Johnston for over 65 years.

Delphine loved participating in bingo, building puzzles, as well as doing crafts. She was an avid Redsox Fan. Delphine was the happiest when she attended cookouts and parties surrounded by her family and friends.

She leaves her children, Charles T. Vanasse, Jr of Smithfield, Kevin Vanasse of Smithfield, Pamela Bekier of Johnston and Bruce Vanasse of North Providence as well as the late Jeffrey Vanasse of Johnston. She was the grandmother of 10 as well as great-grandmother of 9. She was the sister of Faith LaRocque of Somerset, MA, and Joseph Finlay of Burrilville. She was also the sister to the late George Finlay, Grace Williams, Hugh Finlay, Sarah Picard, Dorothy Dorgan, Alfonse “Sonny” Finlay, Mildred Hamel, Mary Babilewicz and William "Billy" Finley. She also shared a special bond with her countless nieces, nephews, and great nieces, nephews.


A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, September 28th, 2023 at the Anderson-Winfield Funeral Home, Route 44 in Greenville. Burial will Follow in Highland Park, Johnston.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, September 27th from 4-7pm. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the RI Cancer Society.
