Obituary

Mr. George E Cataldo, a longtime resident of Woburn and Medford and beloved husband of Dorothy M. Scanzillo passed away at the Lahey Clinic Hospital in Burlington on Tuesday, September 19, 2023. He was 68 years old.

George was the beloved son of Myrtle E. (MacNevin) Cataldo and Virgilio M. Cataldo. George was a Vietnam Army veteran entering the military at Boston on November 9, 1973 and received his honorable discharge from Fort Dix, New Jersey on November 1, 1976. While in the Army, George attained the rank of Sergeant and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Sharp Shooter Ribbon for the M16.

Mr. Cataldo was retired as a Medford Firefighter after serving more than 38 years with the department. In his spare time, George enjoyed being with his entire family, especially his five grand children with his favorite title of “Pa.” His grandchildren were his greatest joy and he loved sending them special surprises.

Besides, his beloved wife, Dorothy, George is survived by his loving children; John J, and his wife, Amanda E. Scanzillo of Charlton, Kristine L. and her husband, Brandon W. Murphy, of Swansea and Anthony J. Cataldo and his partner Johnathan Demers of Woburn, grandchildren; Victoria, Jayden (his Pa), Kaylee, Avery, and Mila. Siblings; Michael and his wife, Carol Cataldo of Stoneham, Diane and her husband, Donald Solesky of Manchester, New Hampshire, Virginia "Ginny" and her husband, David Folger of Medford, Antonette "Toni" and her husband, David Ridgley of Auburn, New Hampshire, Caroline and her husband, Barry Ringler of Walpole and many nieces and nephews. George was also the loving brother of the late Joseph Cataldo of Medford.

His funeral will be held from the Beals-Geake-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 29 Governors Avenue, Medford on Monday, September 25, 2023 at 9 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian burial celebrated in the Immaculate Conception Church, 600 Pleasant Street, Malden at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are most welcome to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, September 24, 2023, from 4 to 8 PM. Interment will be held in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Medford.
