In Loving Memory of Evelia Pereira (May 11, 1937 - September 17, 2023)
On the evening of September 17, 2023, Evelia Pereira peacefully passed away at the Palm Center in Chelmsford, Massachusetts, where she was never without the love of her devoted family.
She was a cherished mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, left behind a legacy of love, laughter, and unwavering dedication. Born on May 11, 1937, in Toa Alto, Puerto Rico, Evelia was one of eleven children to Juan Rodriguez and Maria Pereira. She journeyed to Massachusetts in 1969, initially residing in Acton with her family before settling in Lowell.
Evelia was a woman of many talents and passions. Her soul resonated with music, and she possessed a truly gifted dancing ability coupled with a beautiful singing voice. In her younger days, her melodious voice graced the airwaves, enchanting listeners far and wide. Beyond her musical talents, she found joy in the kitchen, where she lovingly prepared meals for her family. Her generosity knew no bounds, and she found fulfillment in providing for those she held dear.
A lover of community and connection, Evelia frequently indulged in games of bingo and dedicated her time to assisting those in need. Her compassionate heart led her to volunteer at the senior center, where her commitment and dedication earned her a well-deserved award after a decade of selfless service.
Evelia's home was a beacon of warmth and hospitality. She relished in hosting house parties, inviting friends and family to gather, celebrate, and revel in each other's company. Her home was always alive with the sounds of laughter, music, and the hum of joyful conversations.
Evelia is survived by her beloved daughter, Sonia Cordero, and her cherished grandchildren, Joshua Carrasquillo of Lowell and Kazel Cordero of Stoneham, MA. She is also survived by her sister, Maria Antonia Rodriguez Pereira, and brother, Juan Rodriguez Pereira; and her loving nieces and nephews. Evelia was predeceased by eight of her siblings, but their memory lives on in her heart.
Relatives and friends are welcome to attend her visitation on Saturday, September 23, 2023 at the McDonough Funeral Home, 14 Highland Street, Lowell, MA from 9am until 11:30am.
Her funeral service will take place in the funeral home at 11:30 am followed by procession to the Westlawn II Cemetery.
