David L. Vitiello, age 80, of Somerville, MA, died on September 16, 2023 after a 5 1/2 year valiant battle with Multiple Myeloma. David was the beloved husband of Iris E. Haley. He was the cherished son of the late Amadeo L. and Irene C. (Lodi) Vitiello. David was the dear brother of Linda Vitiello of Somerville and Kathryn Vitiello and her husband David Pladziewicz of Medford and was the adored uncle of Laura Pladziewicz of Medford. David will be missed by his ginger cat, Pooter Pie.
David was born in Somerville, MA, on January 28, 1943 .He graduated from Somerville High School in 1960 and received his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Tufts University, MS in engineering from Brown University and MS in mathematics from Northeastern University. He worked at Raytheon in the missiles system division and Los Alamos, NM, and retired from Digital Equipment Corporation in Maynard, MA. At age 50 he earned his registered nurse degree.
David was loyal to his family, possessed a calm demeanor and was always helpful. He enjoyed a good meal and often brought his own condiments. He was a loyal Democrat and believed in social justice and fairness. David loved to travel especially to Negril, Jamaica. A celebration of his life will be held in the future. He was a strong supporter for animals.
