Joni Dianne Nichols, 66, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Thursday, September 14, 2023, at Palemon Gaskins Memorial Nursing Home in Ocilla, Georgia.
The family will receive friends Saturday evening, from 6 PM until 8 PM, at The Paulk Funeral Home in Fitzgerald.
Mrs. Nichols was born August 7, 1957, in Anniston, Alabama, to Mary Jo Kittles Merritt and the late Bobby Euclid Johnston. She was a former employee of Mannington Carpet. Mrs. Nichols enjoyed fishing, spending time with her grandchildren, traveling to the mountains, shopping and buying t-shirts.
She is survived by her son, Al Horton & Jennifer of Tifton; two grandchildren: James Gills and Emma Horton; two step-daughters: Char & Michael Wise & family of Tifton and Chrissy & Roy Harper & family of Tifton; a step-son, Dale Nichols of Fayetteville, Texas; her mother, Mary Jo Merritt of Ocilla; two sisters: Glenda Mobley of Fitzgerald and Regina Sumner of Tifton; a brother, Keith Covington of Brownstown, Indiana; and special friends: Eddie Lee Foster of Tifton, Norma Brown of Forsyth, Wanda Parsons of Talking Rock Creek, and Laura Hall of Adairsville. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles William Nichols and a brother, Steve Johnston.
Paulk Funeral Home, Fitzgerald, is in charge of arrangements.
