TEWKSBURY - Mrs. Joel M. (Richard) Moore, R.N., age 81, a nurse who worked in the
delivery and labor ward at L.G.H., died Thursday, June 22, at the Southern N.H. Medical Center in
Nashua, following a brief illness. She was the wife of William E. Moore, Sr., who died in 1997.
She was born in Alexandria, Louisiana, on September 11, 1924, a daughter of the late Overton
and Mae (Alleman) Richard. She was raised in New Orleans, and earned her Registered Nursing
degrees in New Orleans. Following her marriage she moved to Tewksbury, where she lived until
her retirement 18 years ago. Upon retirement, she moved to Bonifay, Fl, but returned to the
home of her son and daughter-in-law in Litchfield, NH, earlier this year, because of failing health.
She worked as a Registered Nurse in the Maternity Department at Lowell General Hospital until
her retirement.
Since retirement, she had been active in the Bonifay Methodist Church, where she was a member
of the Church Choir, and Ladies Aid Guild. As a resident of Tewksbury, she was active at the
Tewksbury United Methodist Church.
Throughout her life, she was an accomplished seamstress, and also enjoyed crossword puzzles.
She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Gerald Moore and his wife Eleanor (Gifford)
Moore of Litchfield, a son-in-law, Frank Newcomb of Fla.; a sister, Beverly Collins of Fla.; five
grandchildren, Frank Newcomb Jr., of Fla., C.P.O. Brian Newcomb, U.S. Navy, currently
assigned to the Pacific Fleet in Hawaii, Gerald Moore Jr., of Nashua, NH, Lisa Joyner of Fla.,
Rhonda Moore of Milford, NH; and nine great grandchildren.
She was also mother of the late Patricia Newcomb, and twin sister of the late Overton “Sonny”
Richard.
Her funeral service was held Monday evening, June 26,in the
funeral home. Following cremation, interment will be private. Memorials to
the Lowell General Hospital, Development Office, 295 Varnum Ave., Lowell, MA 01854, will be
appreciated.
