Obituary


Curtis R. Plyler, 85 of Abington, Massachusetts passed away surrounded by loved ones on September 6, 2023, at South Shore Hospital after a short battle with cancer.

Curtis was the beloved husband of the late Helen M. (Cox, Hall) Plyler. He is survived by his loving stepsons Bernard V. Hall II of Bridgewater, Robert J. Hall and his wife Kimberly and Thomas E. Hall and wife Cindy of Abington, Massachusetts, daughter-in-law Janice E. (Sherlock) Cox of Naples, Florida, sisters-in-law Margaret (Hucks) Plyler of Charlotte, North Carolina and Barbara Supitkowsky of Spring Hill, Florida. He was predeceased by his loving stepsons William B. Cox III and Joseph F. Hall and daughter-in-law Deborah (Conner) Hall.

Curtis is also survived by his loving great-nephew Edward Sciore and wife Jennifer of South Jordan, Utah. Curtis and Helen took great pride in raising him.

Curtis was born at home in Charlotte, North Carolina to the late Theodore A Plyler and Lois (Riggs) Plyler on October 27, 1937. He was predeceased by his loving brothers James and Kenneth Plyler and his sister Mary Sue (Plyler) Curl.

Curtis is also survived by his loving nieces Kathleen (Plyler) Davey and her husband Dean of Charlotte, North Carolina, Tammie (Curl) Morris and her partner John Pierce of Beaufort, South Carolina, and Michelle (Plyler) Johnson of Weaverville, North Carolina.

He is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and many friends from across the country.

Curtis served his country by enlisting into the United States Navy at 20 years old in October of 1958. During that time, he did three tours in Vietnam and was also stationed on the USS Exploit (MSO-440), USS Conquest (MSO-488), USS Talbot (DEG-4) and the USS Preble (DDG-46). He dedicated 30 years of service to his country and was Honorably Discharged on June 1, 1988, with numerous medals and honors of certificates. Curtis retired from the United States Postal Services after 14 years of employment.

As a world traveler, Curtis took many trips to Europe with his nephew Dean and traveled cross- country several times with his lifelong friend Al Johnson. In the last few years, he appreciated and enjoyed spending time with his lady friend Karen Butler. Curtis was an avid Red Sox and NASCAR fan. He attended many races with his brother James. Curtis was most happy when he was surrounded by family at gatherings and holidays.

Family and friends are invited to attend visiting hours Saturday September 16, from 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte.58 @ the rotary) Whitman. With a service to follow at 1:00 PM in the funeral chapel. Burial will be private at Cedar Grove Cemetery, Dorchester.
