Obituary

Paul William Porcaro, 46, of Anderson, passed away following a brief illness on Sunday, September 3, 2023.

He was born on December 1, 1976 in New York City, New York to Dr. Joseph and Joanne Porcaro (Blatt) and lived in Anderson most of his life. He was a 1996 graduate of Highland High School. Over the course of his lifetime Paul worked at Payless, Fazoli’s, Meijer, Panera and most recently at Culver’s.

He was a longtime member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Anderson where he devotedly served as an alter server and usher.
Paul enjoyed bowling on several leagues at Championship Lanes, and had participated in various events with the Madison County Special Olympics over the course of his life including bowling, golf, and track. He proudly served as a first responder and volunteer firefighter for the Richland Township Fire Department. Paul loved music and was an accomplished singer with a wonderful stage presence. He especially enjoyed performing in many local community fund raisers for Special Olympics. Paul had the special ability to win over everyone he met with his sincere kindness and welcoming smile.

He is survived by his parents, Dr. Joseph and Joanne Porcaro; sisters, Kathleen Shepler of Anderson, Theresa Wrin of Pendleton, and Christine Galbraith (Brandon) of Kokomo; aunt, Rosemary DeRosa of Florida; cousin, Frank Lorenz (Amanda) of Arizona; best friends, Matt Beahm and Joe Hallem; his loving puppy, Molly and countless other special friends he always kept close to his heart.

Paul was the best uncle to Brennan, Kate, Helen, Mara, Sadie, Brogan, Stella and Calum Wrin; Zachary, Audrey, Andrew, and Sarah Shepler; Kaelyn, William, and Ayvah Scarberry; Owen, Adelynn, and Nora Galbraith; Carter (Taylor) Lorenz and Addi, and Maggie Lorenz.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Paul and Sadie Porcaro; maternal grandparents, Robert Blatt, William and Anna Marie Rowe; uncle, John DeRosa; and a cousin, Robert DeRosa.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00am on Friday, September 8, 2023 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Father Matthew Jakupco officiating.
Burial will follow at East Maplewood Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3:00pm-7:00pm on Thursday, September 7, 2023 at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service.

Paul’s family is grateful for the excellent care provided by Promedica Hospice.

In memory of Paul and to honor his great love of people and animals, in lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to St. Vincent de Paul Society, the Madison County Humane Society or to Madison County Special Olympics.
