Patterson, Eugenia “Jennie” 95 of Wellesley MA passed away peacefully on Sept 3, 2023, after a long and full life. She was born on Jan 28, 1928, in Cambridge, MA to the late George and Anastasia Sikalias and grew up in the Greek-American community near the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of Boston. Jennie attended Simmons College as an undergraduate and Boston University, where she earned a Masters Degree in English. Upon marrying George N Patterson, the couple moved to New York City where Jennie worked as an assistant editor at Newsweek. While they eventually returned to Boston, Jennie was forever a New Yorker at heart. Jennie was a faithful steward of the Greek Orthodox Church, first in Boston, and later at St. Demetrios in Weston, MA. She served as a president of The Greek Orthodox Ladies Philoptochos Society on the National Board. She was also a long-standing active member of the Philoptochos Chapter at St. Demetrios Church in Weston, MA. Jennie proudly co-chaired a committee that published a community-based Greek cookbook, The Greek Collection, at St. Demetrios in 1982. Jennie pursued a second successful career as a real estate broker in the Wellesley area and remained active well into her 80’s. Jennie is survived by her son George N. Patterson Jr., his wife Wanda, and her beloved grandchildren Nicholas Walter and Katharine Grace.
Visitation will be held at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 57 Brown St. Weston on Thursday, September 7, from 9-10AM followed by a funeral service beginning at 10AM. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Interment in Woodlawn Cemetery, Wellesley. In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy may be made in Jennie’s memory to St. Demetrios Philoptochos, 57 Brown St. Weston, MA 02493.
