Obituary

LEICESTER-George H. LaPorte, 79, beloved husband and father, died peacefully June 22nd in his home surrounded by his family. He is survived by his devoted wife of 61 years, Claire T. (Turcotte) LaPorte, a son, Francis G. LaPorte of Barre, a daughter, Joan wife of Jay Reidy of Leicester, a brother, Alphonse LaPorte of Auburn, a grandson, Jaymie and a granddaughter, Lea Reidy, both of Leicester. His oldest son, George J. LaPorte, died in 1953 at the age of 5½, and 2 brothers, Alfred and Paul LaPorte predeceased him.

He was born in Worcester on September 4, 1926, the son of George J. and Lea M. (Donais) LaPorte. Mr. LaPorte was a graduate of Holy Name High School and Quinsigamond College. He was a US Army veteran serving in WWII. Mr. LaPorte worked part time in various clothing stores and full time as a letter carrier, later working as a driver trainer for the Worcester Post Office before his retirement in 1990. He was a member of St. Pius X Church. Mr. LaPorte courageously and miraculously fought a 32 year battle with 4 different types of cancer, but his strong faith and belief in the Catholic Church never let the disease dictate his life. In addition to spending time with family and friends, Mr. LaPorte and his wife enjoyed spending almost 20 years at their 2nd home in Wells, ME. His beautiful smile and contagious laugh will be sorely missed by anyone whose life he touched.

The funeral is Monday, June 26th from O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue with a Mass at 10:00 AM in St. Pius X Church, 1154 Main Street, Leicester. Entombment will be in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours are Sunday, June 25th from 4:00 until 7:00 PM in the funeral home.
