Levi J. Muise, 88, of New Bedford died Thursday June 22, 2006 at the Oaks Nursing Home after a long illness.
Born in Gloucester, the son of the late Levi and Margaret (Sheave) Muise, he lived in Gloucester for many years before moving to New Bedford.
He was a communicant of St. Anne's Church in Gloucester.
Mr. Muise was formerly employed as commercial fisherman on various vessels out of the ports of Gloucester and New Bedford.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army with the 165th Engineer Combat Infantry and participated in the Battles of Northern France, the Rhineland, the Ardennes, and Central Europe. He was awarded the American Theater Medal, the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Medal, the World War II Victory Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal.
He was a member of the New Bedford Fishermen's Union. He was a graduate of Gloucester High School, Class of 1936.
Survivors include a son, Donald Muise of Gloucester; three daughters, Sally Matheson of Jensen Beach, FL, Cynthia Kinney and Missy Hardsog, both of New Bedford; three brothers, Ronald Muise of Sunrise, FL, Leslie Muise of Cambridge, and John Laforme of Nashua, NH; and grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday at 9 AM in St. Anthony of Padua Church. Burial with Military Honors will follow in the Mass. National Cemetery in Bourne. Visitation at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford Monday morning 7:30 - 8:30 AM, prior to the Funeral Mass.
