Bridgewater- Linda M. (Gagnon) Handricken, 64, of Bridgewater, died Wednesday, June 21, 2006, at Beth Israel Medical Center in Boston. She was the wife of Paul R. Handricken.
Born Jan. 23, 1942, in Brockton, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Marguerite (Dillon) Gagnon.
She was raised throughout the South Shore area and had been a resident of Bridgewater for the past 34 years.
Mrs. Handricken received a master’s degree in Elementary Education from Cambridge College.
She taught in the Bridgewater-Raynham Regional School district for the past 20 years. Mrs. Handricken started her career at the Williams Elementary School, and more recent, at the George Mitchell, where she had worked since it opened.
In addition to her dedication to her students, she was an active participant in the areas of curriculum development and assessment.
Mrs. Handricken always offered a strong voice in education reform.
She was a recipient of the Loretta Quinlan Award in 1998 for excellence in teaching, community service and commitment to the Plymouth County Education Assoc.
Mrs. Handricken was a member of the Sweet Adelines, where she also served on the board, and the Marriage Encounter Parent Advisory Council.
She was also a girl scout leader and a member of the South Shore Community Church.
In addition to her husband Paul, she was the mother of Kristen Handricken of Cambridge, Nicole Handricken of Taunton, Mary Beth Handricken of Bridgewater, Jonathan Handricken of Brighton, Kevin Handricken of Brockton and the late Kimberley; and sister of Leona Walls of Franklin, Frank Gagnon of Nashua, N.H., and the late Michael Pouliot. Also survived by six grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Her funeral service will be held at the Olivet Memorial Church, 191 Torrey St., Brockton, Monday at 10 am. Burial will be in St. Thomas Aquinas Cemetery.
Visiting hours will be held in the Prophett Funeral Home, 98 Bedford St. (Rte. 18), Bridgewater, Sunday 3-7 pm.
