Marcia (Refuse) Pacheco, beloved wife of Paul Russell Pacheco, passed away peacefully on August 27, 2023, at age 75 at St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford, MA. Both her husband and loving son-in-law, Nelson Brum, were by her side.
Marcia was the devoted mother of Bethany (Pacheco) Brum who predeceased her in March 2011. Her cherished parents, Bernice and Al Refuse, also predeceased her.
Marcia graduated from New Bedford High School (class of 1966) and UMass Amherst (class of 1970). She was a dedicated teacher who spent her entire career at Keith Middle School in New Bedford. She was passionate about her subject matter, enabling her students to engage in and embrace their love of language arts and literature.
Marcia was a voracious reader who thoroughly enjoyed her annual vacations to Dennis on Cape Cod. She would spend her days in the sun avidly reading her books. Marcia’s favorite cruise destination was Bermuda, soaking up the sights and culture of the island. Her most precious times and memories, however, were those spent with Bethany and Nelson during the holidays. She adored all the neighborhood children and “adopted them” as her own. Marcia’s beloved companion was her cat Cicero, lovingly referred to as CC. CC brought much joy and comfort to Marcia over the past twelve years.
Survivors include her loving husband of 53 years, Paul Russell Pacheco, her devoted son-in-law Nelson Brum and her long-time close friends Donna Parker and Karen Garcia.
Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, September 5th from 5:00-8:00 P.M. at the Wilson Funeral Chapel, 479 County St. New Bedford, MA.
A service will be held on Wednesday, September 6th at noon (same location). A private burial will be held at a future date.
